The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar has said that those disguising as Fulani herdsmen to cause havoc and killings are not true Muslims.
Amir Abubakar, who made the declaration in a lecture at the 57th Founder day ceremony of University of Enugu titled “Restoring the Dignity of Man”, said Islam does not support violence and killings.
The Sultan said the current Fulani herdsmen crisis that is bedeviling the country is being carried out by criminals and not herdsmen.
“The herdsmen killing people are criminals and not Fulani herdsmen.
“Anybody who kills people shouting Allah is a terrorist and not a true Muslim and will go to hell. Allah hates people who kill and said they will go to hell,” he said.
He however said education is a major tool in which knowledge and skills are shared to develop the country.
“Countries that take education seriously tend to develop healthier and happier. Education is light and means of restoring the dignity of man while ignorance is darkness.
“Education will continue to be a veritable tool for human and societal development. Education is an instrument for national development and the interaction of persons and ideas are all aspects of education,” he said.
The Sultan’s stance on the herdsmen crisis is coming at a time when reports of atrocities carried out by the herdsmen is being erroneously associated with the religion of Islam. The herdsmen though “faceless” are reported to be fighting a religious war to exterminate Christians even though attacks have been based on land dispute with no religious incidence.
