Could West Ham rekindle David Moyes’s reputation?

Newly appointed West Ham boss, David Moyes, has said he has a “point to prove”, with his primary aim to “repair” his reputation at the Premier League side.

Moyes replaces sacked Slaven Bilic who was shown the exit doors on Monday, owing to the poor run of the Hammers who currently battle the relegation zone.

The former Everton and Manchester United manager resigned from his previous appointment as coach of Sunderland, after the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Moyes was voted LMA Manager of the Year thrice during his reign at Everton from 2002-2013, where they finished in the top eight on nine occasions.

He succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United on a six year contract but was sacked ten months into the appointment due to poor management of the Red Devils.

Moyes equally did not have a good run in Spain as he was sacked in November from Real Sociedad after a year at the club.

The 54 year old manager returned to England in July 2016 to manage Sunderland but quit the job in May 2017 after the Black Cats finished bottom of the Premier League.

“I do have a point to prove. Sometimes you have to repair things and I have a little bit to repair.

“It’s good for me, I’m back in and it’s what I love doing. I want to do well and want the team to do well.”

No better time than now

West Ham has not had an impressive record since moving to London Stadium, at the start of the 2016-2017 season.

They have conceded the second highest number of goals at 41, with Swansea leading on 44 conceded goals. West Ham however, has -16, the worse goal difference.

The Hammers are currently 18th on the log, with two wins, three draws and six loses, taking just nine points from 11 games thus far.

They spent around £42 million on players in the summer; bringing in forward Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City and former Manchester United striker, Javier Hernandez for £16 million.

“My ambition is short term. I have to win the games. I want the football to be entertaining but I want to start defensively. We have to start there and get some clean sheets.

“First it’s about winning football games, then it’s about the style.

“There’s a really strong squad of players here. They certainly shouldn’t be in the position they are in,” Moyes said.

Moyes faces a daunting task as the struggling West Ham faces rather unfavourable fixtures up in line. They play Leicester United on November 24, before playing current league leaders, Manchester City on December 3.

The Hammers then play host to Chelsea on December 9, before hosting the Gunners on four days later, with an awaiting trip to high flying Tottenham on December 31.
