Russia confirms World Cup terrorist threat

Russian authorities have confirmed the Nation faces real threat from ISIS terror attacks in the forthcoming World Cup in 2018.

In a statement, Alexander Golts, a Russian security expert said:  “There is a very real threat of an attack in Russia. The authorities’ say they have succeeded in destroying IS, but several thousand Russians have been taking part in jihadist conflicts and now they are beginning to return to Russia.”

The Federal Security Service claims that about 2,900 Russian who fought in Syria as Jihadists, and around 2,000 to 4,000 Central Asia fighters now reside in Russia.

Meanwhile, Director of the Institute of International Strategic Relations, Pascal Boniface, has dismissed ISIS social media threats targeting players as a plot to “attract attention”.

He added that “any global sporting event which attracts cameras and those with a desire to make an impact” is at risk of an attack.

He also mentioned that competing Nations should join forces together to work against the threatening terror attacks.

“Every country is sending delegations and the common cause of the fight against terrorists goes beyond any disagreement they might have.”

Russia’s deputy Prime Minister, Vitaly Mutko announced that Russia is to spend at least £391 million on security for the FIFA World Cup.

Director of the Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, revealed that a number of attacks were prevented at the Confederations Cup in June.

Also, Saint Petersburg police have already begun deploying sniffer dogs used in sniffing out explosives on Russia’s subway systems.

Has Russia been on ISIS radar?

With Russia apparently in support of President Bashar al-Assad in the on-going Syrian civil war, Deputy Minister of Defence, Yuri Boris has confirmed that more than 600 powerful new weapons against ISIS have been tested.

The Russian military also said it is now increasingly using satellite system in outer space in preparation of any future conflicts.

Former Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air and Space Forces, Viktor Bondarev, said space weapons will be used in future wars.

“The combat mission in Syria has shown that all future wars will be fought not only in the air but also in space.

“It will be a war of the most advanced technologies.

”It is already clear that it is impossible to turn your back to modern warfare, which relies not only on rifles and machine guns.”

He added that, “Over the past two years we’ve mastered the skill of fighting wars in a new way”, noting that Russia is already getting targets from above the earth making use of reconnaissance and cruise missile.
