NFF denies extending Rohr contract, happy with present performance

The Nigeria Football Association (NFF) has denied extending Gernot Rohr’s contract by two years after qualifying the Super Eagles for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Rohr’s current contract covers both the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and has since spent one year and few months on the job after being contracted from Burkina Faso last year.

Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, debunked the report of contract extension, stating that Gernot Rohr’s current contract with the NFF has not expired.

“Rohr still has a contract with the NFF, he is taking us to the World Cup, no extension, for now, it’s all speculation,” Ibitoye said.

Gernot Rohr was contracted after he guided Burkina Faso to the finals of the 2012 AFCON where they lost to Nigeria in the final match.

In a similar reaction, spokesman to the NFF, Ademola Olajire, also debunked the extension adding that,

“There was nothing like contract extension and I don’t know where the news came from.

“If there is going to be contract extension, definitely the media will be carried along and it will not be a secret thing.

“We are happy with the good job he is doing in the Super Eagles and also commend him for the World Cup ticket.”

Some media outlets had reported on October 10 that Gernot Rohr’s contract will be extended for two years after he helped the Super Eagles qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the NFF has commended the Super Eagles Coach on the accomplishments made.

The Eagles qualified on Saturday after Alex Iwobi’s goal helped seal a spot against a resilient Zambian team.
