Iniesta renews Barca deal in the thick of Catalonia upheaval

Barcelona midfielder, Andres Iniesta has renewed his Barca contract, Josep Bartomeu announced.

Andres Iniesta renewed his contract in what may see him end his career with the La Liga giants. Iniesta has played 16 seasons with the club since joining in the 2002/2003 season.

The contract was a major topic for Barcelona especially as the January transfer is coming up soon. The President of the Club had however said that the deal was done even before he signed it.

Next on the list is Lionel Messi as Bartomeu looks forward to extending the contract of the amazing forward with hopes that he remains with the club.

Andres Iniesta, having made 639 appearances at the club, is second to former Barca midfielder, Xavi, who holds the record with 767 matches.

Although Iniesta comes short at goals with just 55 goals to his tally, his brilliance at the centre, dribbling skills, maneuvering moves as well as his assists through breathe taking passes and unmatchable accuracy makes him stand out among midfielders in the world at large.

He has helped Barcelona to a number of trophies including the treble.

Barcelona fans are optimistic that his continued stay at the club would see him continue with is magical touches for the club’s growth.

“This is a special day for me, simply because it means I’m staying at my home, where I can continue to dream of achieving great things for this club. Its where I have grown and developed,” Iniesta said.
