Indonesia Goalkeeper dies after colliding with teammate

Indonesian goalkeeper, Choirul Huda has died after he collided with fellow teammate, Ramon Rodrigues during a match between Lamongan FC and Semen Padang.

The incident occurred at the Surajaya Stadium when Huda collided with his defender, Ramon Rodrigues, in the 43rd minute. Huda collapsed on the pitch after the collision and was stretched away by the Stadium medical team in an attempt to resuscitate him.

The 38 year old captain was put under breathing aid and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the Intensive Care Unit on reaching the hospital.

He was later pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the Soegiri hospital.

Dr Yudistiro Andri Nugroho said Huda suffered “impacts on the chest and lower jaw”.

He added that “initial analysis” suggested a “possibility of head trauma and neck trauma”.

Dr Nugroho also said the collision resulted in Huda “stopping breathing and cardiac arrest”.

He added that the medical team made efforts to revive him but after an hour there were “no reflexes of signs of normal life”.

Huda Choirul is regarded as an Indonesian legend playing more than five hundred matches for Lamongan Persela.

Hundreds of fans trooped to his house in condolence with his family. The team has also announced that the Number one jersey worn by Huda will be retired in honour of the veteran

He was survived by a wife and two children.
