Since you are not dead, wish me a happy birthday; the many innuendo of Governor Fayose

On his 57th birthday, Governor Ayodele Fayose has a wish as strange as his attitude. The Governor of Ekiti State has come out to say he wish President Buhari, who has been a quiet subject of his verbal attacks, woke him up with a happy birthday call.

Fayose, who spoke to journalists at the State House in Ekiti, said he wondered why Buhari did not call him, despite being “one of the governors in Nigeria and a leading opposition figure in the country.”

”My wishes on my 57th birthday as Ayo Fayose are many but one of them which will interest you is that I wish ‎President Buhari’s congratulatory call would have woken me up today as one of the governors in the country, as a father of the nation and as a leading ‎opposition figures in the country. A fearless youngman who believes that things should be done rightly, to show himself as a father of all, preaching that we must extend love to everybody not only, those in his political party.

“The President would have made a difference if he had extended such gesture to others beyond his political party.  Such a congratulatory message should have been conveyed through his Minister of Information.

“I would have loved to either wake up receiving a congratulatory call from him or read it in the papers. But since it is not coming, it is not a big deal to me and I take no offence on it.”

The Governor also stated that he is not an enemy of the President.

“I am not Buhari’s enemy. Opposition is the strength of democracy, it ensures that the electorates get value for their votes. Those who criticise your government are not. Your enemies, they are catalysts to your growth as a Government.”

Fayose also known as “The Rock” claims of not being an enemy to the President contradicts his many outbursts.

BUHARI’S MEDICAL CONDITION

Fayose started calling out Buhari before Buhari became President. He was the sponsor of the infamous ad on the increasingly notorious Punch Newspaper wherein the Governor suggested that leaders from the North West often die in office. In what appears like an uneducated display of insensitivity, the Governor thought it right to use a Bible verse to drive home his point. Analysts say Fayose miscalculated as such moves were the mean reason many, including Christians, pitched their tent with now President Buhari.

Fayose went on to say people at 70 wear pampers, even using his mother as an example of how virtually every old person is senile.

When the President was on a medical leave in London, Nigerians raised concerns about his health status, but the Vice President reassured the citizens, announcing that the President’s health is improving and would return to the country soon.

Fayose, who opined that the VP was lying, threatened to release “damaging pictures” that would show the President has been on life support.

“So we have an acting president of a nation that has visited his boss that cannot show evidence of the meeting. The pictures they are posting on social media are pictures taken a long time ago. The acting president visiting the president that has left this country for about 60 days or more cannot show evidence of the meeting. It shows the president is in a critical condition.

“If they go further and try to continue to deceive Nigerians, I will release about 11 damaging pictures anytime from now on the president’s health,” he declared.

There were also unconfirmed reports that said he will commit suicide if the President returned to the Country alive. He, however, came out to deny such.

When the President finally returned, the Governor said he did not regret all that he had said about him nor does he see reasons to tender an apology.

“For me, the president went to a coma on July 6. Today, they can come back and organise rallies and all that attested to the fact that the President recovered by a miracle which we are glad about.

“I stand by all I have said about the President. We are glad he is back but don’t over-flog him. I am not a sycophant and I stand to speak for Nigeria. Somebody must be able to speak on behalf of the poor masses. This was how they deceived us during the time of Yar’Adua.”

PLAN TO ISLAMISE NIGERIA

In February 2016, the President and some Governors visited Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj rituals, a trip the Governor alleged was part of a plan to Islamise the Country.

“The agenda is coming small small, but we will resist it. Nigeria is a free nation where we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ freely, and we believe in Allah for those who are muslims. This nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation.

“I want to reveal one secret here; They have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation, but God will stop them. This was done in 1984, it failed, it would fail again.”

2016 BUDGET

During the controversies that surrounded the 2016 appropriation Bill, Fayose had said the President is too old and should resign.

“I warned Nigerians of the consequences of electing an octogenarian as president and with the international embarrassment that this budget crisis has become, I have been vindicated.

“The reality is that the President is challenged by age, exposure and ability. He did not read the budget proposal that he presented to the National Assembly and this should be a lesson for those who clamoured for a Buhari’s presidency that no man can give what he does not have.”

Fayose did not only attacked the President, he also claimed that his wife, Aisha Buhari cannot travel to the United States because she was indicted in the  William Jefferson bribery scandal. A claim that turned out to be embarrassingly false.

“I challenged the president’s wife to visit the United States of America to convince Nigerians that she was not the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the judgment convicting William Jefferson.”

“It is on record that the President has visited USA three times and his wife did not travel with him. Equally, she ought to have visited USA last year September to chair a United Nations programme but she sent wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki to represent her.”

Odd joining of Issues
Perhaps the most dangerous of Fayose’s antics is the connection of unconnected issues. President Buhari, while on a visit to Iran, said his first opportunity to lead Nigeria was easier for him, to this Mr. Ffayose strangely asked ““Is Buhari justifying the imprisonment of Dr Alex Ekwueme, who was only the Vice President?”.

Mr. Fayose, like the average gossip blogger or sensational faceless internet warmonger, also formed the habit of romancing rebels. He was pictured with Nnamdi Kanu, the successionist leader of the now proscribed IPOB, and on every of such opportunity, Mr. Fayose never forgets to agitate the people by playing the tribal card.

“People have to ask the FG what the Igbo people have done to deserve all this.” he says.
This is despite the fact that it was the Governors of the Igbo states who came together to announce proscription of IPOB.
