This Senator want allowances of all politicians reduced, as another says he will not contest for second term

Senator Olusola Adeyeye, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, threw the Red Chambers into a rowdy section when he called for the reduction of allowances of all politicians, including Senators, in order to actualise the 2018 Appropriation Bill.

Senator Adeyeye said, during the 2018 Budget debate, that politicians must make sacrifices if they are to slash the budget from N8trillion to N4trillion.

“Here in this place, weeks after weeks, we create new entities that will consume more money at a time when we know the revenue is not increasing.

“If we are all going to complain, let’s face it. I don’t want deficit budget. If we don’t want it and we want to slash the budget of N8 trillion to N4 trillion, some things must give way including the allowances of all politicians.”

His comments were followed with shouts of “it begins with you” from his colleagues, to which he responded in affirmative.

“Yes I agree.

“I’m just saying that there is no gain without pain and we all know it.

“I agree with you, beginning with me, I agree,” he concluded

Meanwhile, House of Representatives member, Babale Bashir, representing Minjibir/Ungogo Constituency, Kano State, stated that he has no plans to return to the lower legislative Chambers.

Bashir made this statement at the floor of the House, during the 2018 budget debate.

“Let me inform the house that I have no intention of coming back. We didn’t achieve much with the capital aspect of the 2017 budget.

“In 2015, we entered a social contract with Nigerians. When we leave here, what would be said about what we have done.”

The lawmaker also explained the reason behind the current oil price of $62 per barrel on the production of 2.5 million barrel a day.

“There are two reasons; geopolitical upheaval in the Middle-East. If today we have some peace in this region, the oil price would come down, and the second reason is the little peace we are having in the Niger Delta.

“If today there is any crisis in the Niger delta then we are going to have a drop in the production volume.”

He urged the ruling party to make use of the period that is left before 2019 to deliver it promise to Nigerians.

“This is a clarion call for us to do the needful, we have till 2019 to deliver the promises we made to Nigerians. So this budget and 2019 budget is the only hope we have.”

Since the presentation of the 2018 budget by President Buhari this month,  controversies and criticism have been trailing it, with one of the Senator even calling it (the budget) “fictitious” and “totally imaginary”
