President Muhammadu Buhari signs International Agreements

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed instruments of ratification for a number of bilateral agreements, of which one is to strengthen the government’s war against corruption and the others for tax administration and intellectual property protection among others.

The President described this as an important achievement in his administration’s effort towards fulfilling international obligations as well as benefit the country’s economy.

“Today’s ceremony marks a very important milestone in our demonstration of sovereign capacity to fulfill our international obligations and take important steps for the benefit of our economy, security and the anti-corruption war within and outside Nigeria”.

He stated that the full implementation of the agreements were delayed due to need by both sides to conclude their respective ratification processes.

President Muhammadu Buhari encouraged all agencies with roles to play under the respective treaties to ensure that they do so effectively in order to reap the benefits of the agreements.

It would be recalled that in January, 2016 in Abu Dhabi, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates signed six different agreements on trade, finance and judicial matters.

The signing of the agreements was witnessed by Ambassadors of the United Kingdom, USA, Ireland, Chad, and Head of the European Union (EU) to Nigeria as well as some Cabinet Ministers and Presidential Aides.
