Presidency has released the full list of Muhammadu Buhari’s appointees since he took charge of Government, but there are still some unanswered questions

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina had faulted the publication of one the country’s dailies which disclosed that 81 of the 100 Buhari’s appointments are from the North. Adesina had said the list was incorrect as it had omitted some names and misplaced some from their rightful positions.

In order to clarify the air and set the record straight, Mr Femi released the list of 159 appointees of the President, with graphical illustrations of their State and region.

The SSA said the list is to prove that the Publication on BussinessDay was wrong.

The graph also shows South-West as having the highest number of appointments, followed by North West, North-East, South-East, North-Central and South-South respectively.

States with highest appointees are Ogun State, Imo, Kano and Katsina.

The list further revealed that President Buhari appointed 22 persons from the South-East zone, where he did not a win a single State and 19 from the North-Central where he won 5 States.

The Missing and Incorrect Link

The list released 159 names, but counting by numbers shows number 118 and 151 missing.

Critical examination of the list revealed that the Comptroller General of Immigration, Mohammed Babandede, is from Jigawa which is North-West and not the North-Central as claimed by the list.

Maryam Uwais, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Plan also hailed from Kano State which is North-West and not the North-Central as written on the list.

Both names show the North-West has 32 appointees to the initial 30 on the list and North-Central is now 19 to the initial 21.

Other notable absentees are 6 of the 13 persons appointed in September 2016 by the President to head Federal Government Agencies.

The Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRSC), Mansur Liman and the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Yakubu Ibn Muhammed, were not included.

The list presented Roli Bode-George as the CEO of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), but she was appointed as the acting Chairman in 2015, which she held for less than three months before Muhammed Abdullah was appointed as the substantive Chairman in January 2016.

The list, which is not without omissions and errors, revealed that the President appointment is not basically Northerners.

Adesina, who was aware of this, explained that the list is not exhaustive but was to prove that the President was fair in his appointment.

“We didn’t say it was completely exhaustive.

“There are some others not there. You will see that all the boards of universities, governing council, the SSA on Job Creation are not there. We didn’t say it was exhaustive. That’s not everything. It’s just to show the majority number.”
