Nigerian Army honours 65 Gallant Soldiers

The Nigerian Army have rewarded 65 gallant soldiers for their bravery in the on-going fight against insurgency.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai who decorated the soldiers said the Army recognizes them for their outstanding prowess in counter insurgency campaign. In a press release issued by the spokesman of the 7 division Nigerian army, Lt. Col. Emmanuel Kingsley, the Army said

“Two officers and 63 soldiers serving under the 151 Task Force Battalion, 21 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, were decorated for their gallantry and bravery in the face of the enemy. On 10th July, the soldiers came under Boko Haram insurgents’ attacks on two separate occasions, but they were able to manoeuvre their way out of the ambush. They engaged the insurgents, inflicting heavy casualties on them and also recovered weapons, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), gun trucks and logistics”

Buratai was quoted as describing soldiering as a call to national duty and tasked the soldiers to rededicate themselves to duty to weed out the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents.

“Buratai tasked the soldiers not to rest on their oars but conclude the fight against Boko Haram Terrorists and return to barracks to continue with training and other routine duties” The Statement said.

This development came after 6,199 Army members were promoted to various ranks ranging from Lance Corporals to Warrant Officers last month. 329 Staff Sergeants were promoted to Warrant Officers, 371 Sergeants were promoted to Staff Sergeants, and 707 Corporals were promoted to Sergeants. Additionally, 1,290 Lance Corporals were promoted to Corporals and 3,502 Privates were promoted to Lance Corporals.

The Nigerian Army launched the Operation LAFIYA DOLE back in 2015 as a code name for military attack activities against Boko Haram. The Operation has proven to be a success so far as the troops are now gaining grounds against the terrorist group.

The Chief of Army Staff in compliance with the directives of the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, to Service Chiefs, returned to the Theatre and had been visiting military formations under Operation LAFIYA DOLE.
