Federal Government has said Nigeria does not need the permission of foreign Nations to declare any group or organization a terrorist group.
This is coming days after the United States of America’s spokesperson for the America Embassy in Nigeria, Russell Brooks stated that:
The Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) is not a terrorist organisation under the US law”.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that Nigeria had never questioned the decisions of any country regarding the running of its internal affairs out of respect for their sovereignty and integrity.
“Nigeria is a sovereign country and it does not require the permission of any other country, to declare any person or organisation a terrorist, just as those countries don’t need the permission of Nigeria, to declare any organisation a terrorist one”.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on prosecution, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla had earlier said that:
“The EU has no business absolutely and totally with our internal matters so if EU says it does not see IPOB as a terrorist group, it does not matter as far as Nigeria is concerned”.
“I want to add that the USA may say IPOB is not a terrorist organisation by US Law because it is a registered business concern in the State of California in the United States”.
“However by Nigerian law a foreign company which is not registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission by the provisions of Section 53 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2004 is illegal”.
Recall that a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, had on September 20, proscribed the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), labeling it a terrorist group.
