President Donald Trump has made a rather awkward announcement yesterday as he expects to announce “the most dishonest & corrupt media awards. With nominations from CNN, Time Magazine and ABC News”.
I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock. Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 3, 2018
The announcement came after the ‘Trump Make America Great Again Committee’ earlier sent an email to news Media, announcing a contest named “2017 KING of Fake News”, urging them to participate in the exercise.
Trump had earlier conceived the idea of “Fake News” contest in November, when he tweeted: “We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me). They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!”
How they got nomination
ABC
In December 2017, ABC report by journalist Brian Ross, claimed the former National Security Advisor, Mike Flynn, was prepared to testify that Trump directed him to contact Russian officials before Election Day.
The report was later corrected to show that Trump directed Flynn to contact Russian officials before Inauguration Day.
CNN
On 4th of September 2016, CNN reported that Donald Jr. received an email from WikiLeaks granting them special access to materials that would later become public.
It was later reported that he, however, received the email from WikiLeaks, but was on September 14, 2016, after the documents had been published, which indicated there was no collaboration with the hacker organization and Trump.
TIME MAGAZINE
Time magazine had mistakenly reported that a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. was removed from the Oval Office. The reporter, Zeke Miller, spotted that of Winston Churchill but didn’t see the one of King.
However, Miller did not see behind a door that was essentially blocking his view of King’s bust.
She later apologised for her error which the then White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer replied: “Apology accepted”.
It still remains unclear if the White House would hold a party for the award, as it’s likely there would be attending.
However, what is certain is that President Trump would announce the winner via Twitter, is favourite Social Media platform.
