Despite beating Argentina, Rohr is being realistic about Nigeria’s performance at World Cup

With as emphatic 4-2 victory of the Super Eagles over the Albicelestes of Argentina in a friendly match on Tuesday, Gernot Rohr still believes that it is too early to tag his team as favourites, come Russia 2018 World Cup.

First half goals from Ever Banega and Sergio Aguero gave Argentina the lead, but a superb free kick by Kelechi Iheanacho ensured Nigeria pulled one back before Half-time.

The second-half showed the determined Eagles on rampage as Iwobi netted a brace and debutant Brian Idowu ensured the Nigeria ran riot in Krasnodar, Russia.

Speaking at the Post-Match Conference, Coach of the Super Eagles said: “It’s a good victory for us but it doesn’t mean we’ve become favourites to win the World Cup. We stay humble and realise we have more work to do.

“We prepared well for this game because playing Argentina is big for us, maybe it is different for them.”

“I am happy we came back from two goals down to win 4-2. It shows we have great team spirit and determination when you keep fighting after going two goals down against a great team like Argentina.”

The win also ensures Nigeria extends it impressive record to seven wins, three draws and one defeat since the German tactician took charge.
