Army humanitarian service continues, empowers IDPs in Adamawa

The Nigerian Army is not relenting on it Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the citizens as it has now commence a military empowerment scheme for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa State.

The Armed forces which have been carrying out series of Social Responsibility in its on-going Exercise ‘Python Dance’ and ‘Crocodile Smile’ in South-East, South-South and South-West, providing medical outreach amongst others, have now extended the gestures to the IDPs.

Speaking at the flag-off, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai, represented by the General Officer, Commanding 3rd Armoured Division, Brigadier General Benjamin Ahanotu, said the Army will continue to partner with stakeholders to impact positively in providing security and humanitarian services to the people of the Country.

The Commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade, Brigadier Gen. Bello Muhammed, who was also at the venue, said the empowerment programme is aimed at providing stability in the war against terrorism and insurgency going on in the North-East.

“The programmes being executed today was planned and facilitated in accordance with the COAS vision for Nigeria’s Army support to humanitarian assistance and intervention.

“It is also aimed at complementing the effort of Presidential Committee on North-East initiative, most especially to make Adamawa, IDP Free State.”

He expressed gratitude to the Governor or Adamawa and Taraba States for their support, adding that the empowerment would enable the affected persons get back on their feet.

Items donated to the IDP camp include Computers, sewing machine, materials for carpentry, vulcanizing, barbing and hair-dressing, farming and livestock.

The Governor of Adamawa State, Mohammed Bindow, applauded the Armed Forces for bringing normalcy back to the region stating that people can now go back to their homes as peace is being restored.

Governor Bindow further said the IDP camp will be closed soon, to enable the displaced persons return back to their communities and reintegrate themselves as they have been before the insurgency began.
