Again, Nigerian Army neutralises Boko Haram Terrorists and talks too much

The Nigerian Army has been able to neutralize over 13 terrorist in it’s recent clearance attacked carried out in different areas of Borno and Adamawa States.

In a statement released by the spokesman of the force, Brig.-Gen. Sanni Usman, 12 terrorists were neutralised when the troops of Operation Lafia Dole laid ambush for them at the Myanki-Banki Junction in Borno and Kanfi House in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa state respectively. Usman also noted that the soldiers were able to neutralize a number of terrorists at Dukje-Mada road near Gulumba Gana village.

The spokesman further revealed that two soldiers lost their lives in the process of the operation as their vehicle stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was buried along the way while four others sustained serious injuries.

“The bodies of the soldiers that are killed have been evacuated to Maiduguri”. He said

Usman also listed the ammunition recovered from the terrorist. They include AK-47 rifle with reg. number o2527 and a magazine, nine primed cylinders from the Improvised Explosive Device making factory of the terrorists, The factory was also destroyed.

Some more items recovered are 18 bicycles, 30 bags of flour, a bag of groundnut, two bags of salts, two baskets of kola nut, and five torch lights, a carton of mixed juice sachets and four rolls of brocade materials. Other items included two packets of sweet, one carton of washing soap, five packets of cold patch, two packets of Maggi cubes, two pair of bathroom slippers, two packets of yeasts and four packets of Vedan.

The question of why the Nigerian army gives detail of where and when they got members of Boko Haram is still unanswered. Some have opined that if certain areas are danger areas for the terrorist then it would have been more tactical to not mention those areas. The Army is also notorious for announcing attacks it hopes to carry out and even going as far as stating the names of the place. In one instance, Acting General Officer commanding, GOC 8 Task Force Division, Stevenson Olabanji on July 17, 2017 stated before the world that the Army will soon attack a “remote Island in Lake Chad where Boko Haram fighters now use as their new operational base.” He went on to describe this location as secret. This goof was sadly reported by mainstream news media in Nigeria without considering the security implications for the soldiers who will have to face the already informed terrorized.
