State House Clinic clears the air on N11.01bn appropriation of 2015 – 2017

The Permanent Secretary, State House Clinic, Mr Jalal Arabi, has cleared the air on the State House Medical Centre receiving N11.01bn as appropriation for the period of 2015 – 2017, stating that the total appropriation to the clinic from 2015 – 2017 was N3.406bn.

Arabi added that the figures were verifiable from the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Budget and National Planning respectively.

“It may interest the public to know that there was zero capital allocation for the medical centre in 2017, while out of the N331,730,211.00 being recurrent appropriation for 2017, the actual amount released up to September was N91,370,053.60 representing 27.54%”.

“Despite the shortfalls between budgetary provisions and actual releases, the Medical Centre continued to provide free services to the over 10,000 registered patients annually. In addition, the centre has continued to execute on-going projects”.

Mr Arabi noted that the gap between demand and supply of medical equipment and consumables was as a result of unrestricted patronage, free services of the State House Medical Centre and funding problems.

He also disclosed that the Federal Lawmakers also enjoy free Medical Services in the Clinic.

“Apart from the Presidency, other beneficiaries of the free services include Political Appointees, the Military, Para-Military and other Security Agencies, members of the National Assembly and the General Public”.

The House Committee on Health Care Service, Chaired by Mr. Chike Okafor, had earlier been directed by the House of Representatives to investigate the Clinic and report to the Plenary Session within three months.

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari had previously complained that she visited a private owned hospital because of the poor condition of clinic adding that the budget allotted to the clinic must be accounted for.
