Update: who won Trump’s fake news award and why

President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, finally announced the winners of the highly anticipated “Fake News Award” with CNN and New York Times making the top of the list.

There were no red carpets or paparazzi, rather it crashed the Republican Party’s website which he posted the list of the award winners on, moments after he tweeted the link announcing the winners. This was due to the high volume of traffic.

The list comprises of 11 ‘fake news reports’, with CNN having four, New York Times with two, while TIME magazine, ABC News, Newsweek and Washington Post won an award each.

“The New York Times’ Paul Krugman claimed on the day of President Trump’s historic, landslide victory that the economy would never recover.”

Krugman’s claim was however reported to be an opinion article which does not qualify to be called News. Krugman was reported to have also retracted his claims some days later.

“ABC News’ Brian Ross CHOKES and sends markets in a downward spiral with false report”.

ABC News also apologized and corrected the error made by Ross on wrong reportage about former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, claiming it was a “serious mistake” and Ross was further suspended.

“CNN FALSELY reported that candidate Donald Trump and his son Donald J. Trump, Jr. had access to hacked documents from WikiLeaks.”

On CNN falsely reporting that the President and his son, Donald J. Trump jnr had access to hacked documents from WikiLeaks, other Media including Washington Post and NBC News reported CNN’s report as inaccurate.

It turned out that the sender of the email in question was notifying the Trumps of already public documents and CNN also issued a correction.

“TIME FALSELY reported that President Trump removed a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. from the Oval Office.”

The reporter, Zeke Miller, posted it as a tweet and later followed it up with a correction and further with an apology.

“Washington Post FALSELY reported the President’s massive sold-out rally in Pensacola, Florida was empty. Dishonest reporter showed picture of empty arena HOURS before crowd started pouring in.”

This was also a tweet, not a news story and the reporter, Dave Weigel, later deleted it saying “it was a bad tweet on my personal account, not a story for the Washington Post.”

“CNN FALSELY edited a video to make it appear President Trump defiantly overfed fish during a visit with the Japanese Prime Minister. Japanese Prime Minister actually led the way with the feeding.”

What went viral was a clip of Trump appearing to quickly pour his entire box of food into the pond. But then it turned out that Shinzo Abe went first. It could have just been a matter of how the video feeds were released to reporters.

“CNN FALSELY reported about Anthony Scaramucci’s meeting with a Russian, but retracted it due to a ‘significant breakdown in process’.”

CNN later published a correction, which further led to the resignation of three reporters.

“Newsweek FALSELY reported that Polish First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda did not shake President Trump’s hand.”

Similar to the Japanese Prime Minister Video clip, this was also a short video that showed the first lady shaking the hands of Trump after she had first shaken hands with Melania.

“CNN FALSELY reported that former FBI Director James Comey would dispute President Trump’s claim that he was told he is not under investigation.”

CNN was wrong with the story and a correction was made and updated, after realizing the mistake. The reporter also resigned.

“The New York Times FALSELY claimed on the front page that the Trump administration had hidden a climate report.”

New York Times had uploaded the report to a nonprofit internet digital library in January but received little attention until it was published by The New York Times in August.

“And last, but not least: “RUSSIA COLLUSION!” Russian collusion is perhaps the greatest hoax perpetrated on the American people. THERE IS NO COLLUSION!”

Besides Ross’s error, Trump did not call out any specific story about the Russia probe or special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
