Mike Tyson opens cannabis ranch as California joins other states in weed legalisation

Former boxing heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, has purchased 40 acres of land in California City, south-west of Death Valley, for a cannabis ranch following its legalization for recreational use.

The ‘Tyson Ranch’ will have 20 acres for ‘master growers’.

The boxing legend will also have his own school to teach farmers how to grow and develop the plant- called the ‘Tyson Cultivation School.’

The area will have its own amphitheatre, complete with luxury camping area and cabins.

Tyson linked up with business partners Jay Strommen and Robert Hickman, with the complete support of the city’s Mayor, Jennifer Wood.

Medical marijuana has been legalised in the state of California for the past 20 years and Tyson’s ranch will look to carry out research to help develop its clinical benefits, as he is reported to be a long-time supporter of medical marijuana and its clinical uses.

The US state is expecting a marijuana boom with legalisation, and the Mayor described the ranch as a “rebirth” for the City which will create needed jobs.

California City was launched in 1958 with the intention of making it as big as Los Angeles, but the community failed to attract migrants.

The state is the sixth to take such measures, making marijuana legal for adults aged 21 and older, and individuals can grow up to six plants and possess as much as an ounce of the drug.

Other states where ‘weed’ is legalised

The legalization of Marijuana or weed for recreational and medical purposes is spreading rapidly in America.

Many states are adjusting laws and regulations, or creating new ones, in regards to Marijuana. As access and distribution of Marijuana become readily available, new businesses, activities, and experiences are on the increase for visiting stoners, locals, and Marijuana enthusiasts of all stripes.

While some states allow you to carry up to one ounce of Marijuana on you, it is still illegal to smoke or consume it in public, in company of children, or outside your home, depending on your location.

In some states where it is legal to smoke recreational Marijuana, it remains illegal and not available to purchase from a dealer or a dispensary without a medical Marijuana card.

Washington D.C

In 2014, it became permissible to smoke and carry recreational weed in the Nation’s capital, provided it was below two ounces and it was “gifted” to you. You are allowed to possess it, but not allowed to purchase it there.

Seattle, Washington

Since 2012, you can legally purchase up to one ounce of marijuana for recreational purposes from a licensed dispensary if you’re over 21.

Denver, Colorado

Also in 2012, you can legally purchase up to one ounce of marijuana for recreational purposes from a licensed dispensary if you’re over 21. In 2016, there was a motion to pass and legalize social marijuana use, meaning you can go to a local bar, club, or venue that has a special permit and smoke on-site.

Portland, Maine

In early 2017, it became legal to carry 2.5 ounces of Marijuana and, again, only smoke in a private location if you are over 21.

Boston, Massachusetts

Legal possession and use of one ounce of Marijuana were granted if you are over 21, but it’s still illegal for you to purchase there.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Since July 2017, you can legally purchase and carry one ounce of Marijuana or an eighth-ounce of concentrates like wax, shatter, and oil for recreational purposes from a licensed dispensary if you’re over 21.

Portland, Oregon

You can legally possess Marijuana and use it at home or on private property if you’re over 21, and you can also acquire it either as a gift, with no money exchanged, or purchase it from a licensed retail location.

Can its good surpass its evil?

Marijuana is known to cause short-term memory problems, severe anxiety, including the fear that one is being watched or followed (paranoia). It also leads to very strange behavior, seeing, hearing or smelling things that aren’t there, not being able to tell imagination from reality (psychosis), Panic, Hallucinations, Loss of sense of personal identity, Lowered reaction time, Increased heart rate (risk of heart attack) and it increased risk of stroke.

Also associated with Marijuana on a short-term is problems with coordination (impairing safe driving or playing sports) and studies show those who take Marijuana are up to seven times more likely to contract sexually transmitted infections than non-users (for females).
