Style of Military “Coup” in Zimbabwe is showing how Mugabe is not as hated as the Media wants you to believe

The style of the recent announcement by the Military of Zimbabwe that it has taken over the Government and it emphatic assurance that President Robert Mugabe and his family are safe is contradicting the Media portrayal of Mugabe as a tyrant, who is not loved by his people.

The Army Chief of the Country, Constantino Chiwenga, had on Monday, warned that the Military could intervene, to stop the current “purge” of the ruling ZANU-PF party after it sacked Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa was rebuked and dismissed after being accused of displaying “traits of Disloyalty” by Mugabe.

Mugabe’s wife Grace had also accused him of trying to wrestle power from the Government.

“In 1980 this person called Mnangagwa wanted to stage a coup. He wanted to wrestle power from the president.

“He was conspiring with whites. That man is a ravisher.”

Two days after being fired, he fled to South Africa, claiming his life and that of his family is being threatened but promised to return.

“I will return to Zimbabwe to lead you,” Mnangagwa had said in a statement.

In the early hours of Wednesday, gun fires were heard in the Capital, Harare, after armoured tanks took positions, but the military asked the residents to calm down.

A Statement was later read out by Army General and Chief of Logistics,  Sibusiso Moyo, saying it has taken over power, but denied that it was a Military coup reassuring the citizens of the safety of the President.

“Firstly we wish to assure our nation, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and commander in chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Comrade R G Mugabe and his family, are safe and sound and their security is guaranteed.

“We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice.

“To both our people and the world beyond our borders, we wish to make this abundantly clear this is not a military takeover of government. What the Zimbabwe defence forces is doing is to pacify a degenerating political, social and economic situation in our country which if not addressed may result in violent conflict.”

There have also been reports about the Zimbabwe President in a negative light, especially his views toward whites.

During his speech at the 22nd independence anniversary of Zimbabwe, he said, “The white man is here as a second citizen: you are number one.”

He also embarked on a campaign to take possession of lands from white commercial farmers and redistribute it to the black citizens.

Mugabe has also taken a strong stance against Homosexuals describing them to be “Worse than pigs, goats, and birds.”

The 93-year old President, who has been in power since 1987, is still loved by the citizens of his Country, despite reports by the Media that he has unquenchable taste for power.

His efforts in regaining the Country from the Colonial Powers through several liberation movements in the 1980’s may have been what endeared him to his people and hated by his enemies.

Although there have been allegations of irregularities in the election that brought him to power in 2008, his triumph and the care the military is taking to ensure the people of Zimbabwwe do not see the Coup as Anti-Mugabe shows that Zimbabwean still loves him.
