“By talent, a good degree and coming from a very well-to-do family does not bring success and certainly does not bring greatness” – Vice President

The Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has said a good degree and coming from a very well-to-do family does not bring success and certainly does not bring greatness.

He stated this at the 10th convocation of Lead City University, Ibadan, where 590 students were awarded first-degree certificates in various disciplines.

Prof. Osinbajo explained that most talented people, who get the best degrees, do not necessarily become the most successful in life, adding that the difference between success and failure, mediocrity or excellence is character.

“Along with character is opportunity, perhaps the most crucial is the grace of God”.

He called on youths to make use of their productive years, emphasizing that one of the important lessons to learn is that time flies, ‘whether you are wasting it or you are using it well, it simply flies back’

The Vice President advised the new graduates to be innovative, using technology, and make good use of skills and knowledge acquired by making a positive influence in the Society.

“Today, technology is a great asset for young people to innovate and climb the ladder of greatness. You have a chance to determine your future”.

The Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, in his remark expressed the readiness of his administration to create a synergy between Lead City University and the new state-owned Technical University, Ibadan.

He expressed optimism that the University could become one of the top 10 in the country and one of the best in the World, going by the quality of graduates from the institution.

The Vice Chancellor, LCU, Prof Remi Adeyemo, lauded the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for the successes recorded in the fight against corruption.

Gani Fawehinmi had a Pass

Gani Fawehinmi was the best legal mind of his time in Africa, but he was not even the best in the University days. He had ordinary pass that could be classified as “let my people go” in his Law degree.

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari contested the 2015 elections that he won and other elections with his SSCE result. He was accused by the PDP of not having a certificate, a claim which was later settled after he produced his statement of result.

He is also an alumnus of the Indian Defence Services Staff College in Wellington from where he graduated in 1973.

President Buhari studied in the US Army War College (1979-1980) where he was described as “a gentleman, a soft-spoken soldier, who preserved the ethics of the profession almost as a Quarter-Master-General”.
