As the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), set to commence the sale of forms for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), it has ban the use of electronic devices such as pen, wrist watches, eye glasses, as they are being used to perpetrate examination malpractice.

This was made known by the Registrar and Chief Executive of the exam body, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, at a workshop sensitization of Computer Based Test (CBT), centre owners in Lagos.

Oloyede disclosed that new measures are being put in place to ensure zero tolerance towards examination malpractice as it was discovered that some centres were found wanting in the last examination.

“To this end therefore we have introduced some measures that will further add to the integrity of the registration process as well as the conduct of the examination proper.

“For instance, we discovered during the conduct of the last examination that some electronic devices such as pens, wristwatches and other devices were used to perpetrate examination malpractice.

“So, for next year, we have banned the use of wristwatches and pens by candidates and other persons in the examination hall.

The Registrar further added that the body have the equipment to screen prescription glasses for those who cannot do without wearing it and that no CBT centres would be involved in the exam without proper functioning and effective CCTV cameras accessible by JAMB central monitor room in Abuja.

“We are also going to introduce some detection devices to ensure that those who plan to cheat in the examination hall are frustrated, as we will also jam (communication network) of the centres,” he said.

He added that the centres should have nothing less than 250 working computers and another 25 for back-ups in their centres, with only Jamb custom browser.

When asked on when the sales of form will commence, the Prof said there will be a meeting with the stakeholders next week and the sales will begin before the end of the month.

He stated that prospective students should ensure they fill their form properly as they exam body generate close to N100million on the last exam to effect corrections.

“Before that, we expect students to download the applications from JAMB’s website, which include the syllabus and the brochure to enable them study the registration procedure to minimise errors,” he added.
