The Pastors’ Nightmare: Profiling the controversial Daddy Freeze

Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, is a Nigerian On-Air Personality (OAP) some may consider controversial because of his incessant attacks on clergymen and their doctrines.

Daddy Freeze started his Broadcasting career with the Oyo State Broadcasting Commission in 1999, joined Cool FM in 2001 as a radio presenter and has been in the Lagos branch of the Station since then.

He was married to Ope, whom he had two Kids with, but later divorced in 2015 after Daddy Freeze complained of Assault, infidelity, abuse among others.

The OAP has been known for taking swipes at Pastors, accusing them of false prophesises and miracles.

In March 2016, a bomb exploded at Brussels Airport and Metro Station in Germany, claiming 30 lives and several others seriously injured which the Synagogue pastor, T.B Joshua claimed he foresaw in a revelation.

This did not go well with Daddy Freeze as he came for T.B Joshua, asking him how come he could not receive revelation about his church that collapsed, but saw what would happened in faraway Germany.

Freeze wrote: “Baba, leave story you didn’t predict jack! Northern French country ko, Southern Portuguese country ni! Shior!!! Your so called prediction killed about 30 while in your own backyard 116 were killed???? Baba, leave this one and go and predict #SureBet make boys hammer!”

In June this year, the SCOAN Pastor announced his intention of moving his ministry to Israel. The announcement was criticized by Nigerian Pastor, Chris Okotie, who slammed the pastor of being controlled by spirits.

“He is controlled by a malevolent misanthropic spirit. His hypocritical jeremiad should be ignored. He is just another frustrated shaman seeking public sympathy.”

Again, Daddy Freeze shows up, but this time, for Chris Okotie.

”In my opinion, Chris Okotie is in no position to condemn Prophet Joshua! Also, his choices of words when addressing Prophet Joshua are, by my standards, grossly inappropriate and serve to bescumber his image.

“I don’t have a problem with TB Joshua relocating or staying, as the choice is his to make. My problem is the fact that it was at the verge of becoming a federal government issue, amidst all our other unresolved problems.

“However, this should not present an opportunity for a pastor to shade another pastor. ∼FRZ.”

Daddy Freeze also called out the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enock Adeboye for making false Prophesies in 2016, telling him his prophesisies is yet to be fulfilled and the year is winding up.

He wrote on his Instagram: “I sincerely hope we don’t get these type of vague prophesies for 2017 or is it that we don’t understand the meaning of the word prophecy? Or are we so gullible and blinded by our ‘religiousness’ that we can’t see that these prophesies are as accurate as saying “someone in Lagos is going to receive a chieftaincy title in 2016?

“For those of you that haven’t seen the prophesies made by pastor Adeboye on the 1st of January, 2016, Here they are….. what do you think? Because earthquakes didn’t increase in 2016, no new venereal diseases were discovered and things didn’t improve towards the end of the year in Nigeria; oh well, what do I know?”.

In August, the OAP also called on the pastor to define what a godly wedding is, after the pastor’s wife, Foluke Adeboye placed a ban on using compulsory uniforms known as ‘Aso-Ebi’ by members for public events and also condemning lies told by pastors at church weddings.

Mrs Foluke had said during one of the annual convention of the church: “There have been reports that some members of some parishes in the church that cannot afford to buy some of these Aso Ebi’s have been exempted from some church functions.

“Such un-Christianly act of keeping church members out of programmes because of Aso ebi, must never be heard of again among the women in the church.”

Reacting, Daddy Freeze said the pastor should provide textual backing on how weddings should be conducted and what is known as ungodly wedding in the Bible.

“Dear Pastor Adeboye, kindly show me, with scriptural backing, what a ‘Godly’ wedding practice is.

“While we are at this, let’s keep it in perspective, that the only wedding Jesus attended in the Bible, had alcoholic wine, while the RCCG forbids alcoholic wine.

“If Jesus attended a Godly wedding that had alcohol, and RCCG considers alcohol ‘ungodly’, I wonder what the basis is, for differentiating between the Godly and the ungodly for the RCCG and upon this assertion, the leadership of the #FreeTheSheeple movement hereby challenges the leadership of the RCCG to a biblical debate titled ‘What is a Godly wedding’ “God bless us all!” he wrote on his Instagram page @daddyfreeze.

The height of controversies came when the half-Nigerian, Half-Romanian Daddy Freeze started the ‘Free the Sheeple’ movement which he claims is to educate and free Christians from the shackles of religious imprisonment.

The Convener has constantly reiterated that Pastors are not supposed to force members to pay tithes as it has already been abolished in the Old Testament of the Bible.

He gave biblical evidences on how tithe should be paid, even if it should be paid.

When interviewed on Linda IkejiTV, he said: “You want to give your money to Jesus, the Bible says people who are in hospital, Matthew 25, it is right there, people who are homeless, people who are hungry, people who are naked.

“Jesus said each time you remember those people, you remember me. So if you want to give your money to Jesus, those are the people you should help.”

His view on paying tithes has raised a lot of uproar, with many thinking he is misleading Christians.

In an interview, Made Men Music Boss, Ubi Franklin dismissed Daddy Freeze claims that tithe enriches pastors.

“I pay my tithe. I’m not even interested in that rubbish Freeze is saying. Everybody is saying what they want to say. I am a Christian. Christianity is not about the Church you go to. If the bible talks about tithing, pay your tithe. I pay my tithe. I believe part of my success and how I’m growing is because how I’m able to not hold on to what I’m supposed to give to God. I am not giving it to a pastor. I attend House On The Rock, but I am not tied to House On The Rock because of House on the Rock but because of God. That’s where I receive the word. If my life is changing based on what I’m hearing, I won’t hold back my tithe, offerings.”

Daddy Freeze did not take this lightly as he accused Franklin of disrespecting his opinion.

“Dear @ubifranklintriplemg, I have never insulted your person, so you stating that I am “saying rubbish” is quite unfair.

“You said tithing was in the Bible and you obey it. Please what part of the Bible if I may ask? Is it Deuteronomy 14:22-26 that says we should eat our tithe in the place the LORD has chosen? Or is it Malachi 3:8-10 that was debunked by this your same pastor when he said, from a post where his last sermon was quoted on Linda Ikeji’s blog, that Christians are not under any curse for not paying tithe?

“I’m not sure Pastor Paul would have chosen you to be the mouthpiece of his ‘grace’ doctrine, especially with your state of benightedness on this particular issue.

“Following the footsteps of many of your pastors, you haven’t addressed my ‘rubbish’ with the Bible. Instead, you have used your personal ‘sentiment’ and ’emotions’ to debate my claims.

“Dear brother, we are all entitled to our feelings, emotions, sentiment and ‘understanding’. Unfortunately, we aren’t entitled to our own facts and your attempt to debunk my ‘facts’ with your ’emotions’ is doing the doctrine you swear by, a huge disservice.

“Furthermore, if you stick by your pastor’s ‘grace’ doctrine of ‘unmerited favor’ saying you tithe is indirectly saying you are paying for this favor, rendering its claim of being ‘unmerited’ all but futile!

“In my own opinion, you and pastor Paul should be looking for bible verses that show that our first ‘pastors’, the 12 disciples, collected tithe and pointing out bible verses that show where believers that weren’t Jewish, paid tithe.

“I sincerely wish you good luck in your search! ~FRZ,” he concluded.

Recently, his Instagram account was hacked and he claims Pastors are responsible because they hate him for speaking the truth, although, he has been able to regain it.

Although, giving tithes differs in Christendom, as Pentecostals agrees that Tithes should be paid according to some references from the Bible, the Catholics and Jehovah Witnesses disagrees noting that there was nowhere in the Bible that references Jesus as paying tithe.
