Mrs Aisha Buhari recently reacted to accusations by Senator Misau that the Police Inspector General, Ibrahim Idris, purchased two Prado SUVs for the personal use of the wife of the President, based on her request.
In a statement signed by her Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna, Mrs Buhari said she was still using the vehicles allocated to her before the elections in 2015.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to the news being widely circulated, and attributed to a member of the Senate that two SUVs from the Inspector General of Police were given to wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, personally.
“The wife of the President wants to make it clear that since the assumption of office of her husband as President of Nigeria, she did not receive these mentioned vehicles.
“Furthermore, the vehicles she is still using belong to the family and were the ones used during the campaign for 2015 elections, including the one for her entourage.”
Also, the wife of the President replied to a tweet from naij.com which contained links to a news report about the incident. In her reply by her Twitter handle, she said “I am still using my personal cars.’’

What however stood out for media observers was that the wife of the President actually reads Naij.com; a very poorly managed ‘news’ media which focuses on spreading false news reports and agitating contents aimed at stirring unnecessary strife. Also, this media company has been involved time and again in plagiarism.
In 2014, Daily Post took Naij.com to court for plagiarizing over 80 posts, word for word from the Daily Post website. In 2015, PM Parrot also took legal actions against Naij.com saying they copied a piece without notifying or crediting pmparrot.com.
Daily Post released a statement then claiming that all Naij does is to remove the name of the original writers and add theirs.
‘’it’s shameful that Naij.com could not change even a line in the stories we exclusively reported” It added.
In 2013, Naij.com was accused of DNS poisoning of ISPs as traffic from sites like Nairaland were being directed to Naij.
The fact that the wife of the President replied a tweet from, or even as much as follows, this notorious agency is a matter for concern for anyone who understands the dangers of fake news. Their notoriety is so much that the network provider, Globacom, has barred their customer lines from accessing Naij.com.
If Mrs Buhari gets her information from Naij.com, then, there sure are a lot of information she needs to double check.
