Speaking at a Joint News Conference on Thursday with President Muhammadu Buhari, Turkey President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said Nigeria has great potentials and remains a global actor in terms of Economy, Demographics and its Peacekeeping Records.
He mentioned that there was no difference between Boko Haram and ISIS, adding that the terrorist groups have all killed and inflicted pain and hardship on innocent people.
President Erdogan added that Turkey would stand with Nigeria and provide all kinds of support to fight against terrorism.
“We also expect the same cooperation from Nigeria in fighting against Fethullah that murdered 250 Turkish citizens last year”.
He explained that Turkish Custom Authority were engaged in talks with the Nigerian Customs Service over how thousands of pump action rifles got to Nigeria, from Turkey.
He emphasized that he believes both Countries can push trade volumes above $1.245bn.
“Turkish business people are ready to take on the development of Nigeria”.
Responding, President Muhammadu Buhari, said the Federal Government was disturbed when Boko Haram made claims to getting help from ISIS.
He expressed pleasure that the Federal Government was able to curtail the terrorist group adding that there were lots of investment opportunities in the Educational and Health Sectors in Nigeria.
“These will be strengthened and I assure you that Nigeria is prepared to accept Turkish business people to come and explore more of Nigeria’s potentialities”.
President Buhari attended the D-8 Summit in Istanbul on Saturday, alongside other Member Countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and the host Country, Turkey.
At the end of the Summit, all Member Countries are expected adopt the ‘Istanbul Declaration 2017’ and the ‘D-8 Istanbul Plan of Action’, in order to inject further dynamism into the pace of progress of the Organization.
