PSG boss, Nasser Al Khelaifi, faces new charges amidst FIFA investigation

PSG and beIN media boss, Nasser Al- Khelaifi, is facing new charges and accusations as well as FIFA investigation, following a raid and seizure by the Italian police on ‘Villa Bianca’ in Sardinia alleged to have being used as “a means of corruption” in the World Cup TV rights scandal.

The Italian finance police said they seized a villa in Sardinia worth £6.2 million. Police after searching the property said the beIN media chief had put the villa at the disposal of Jerome Valcke.

However, Valcke has denied receiving anything from anyone. “I have never received anything in exchange for anything; I just want to say it’s not true. I have never done that.”

Francis Szpiner, Al Khelaifi’s lawyer, had declined to make any comment on the development. A close aide to the beIN chief however said that the Qatari businessman had no reason to influence anyone considering he has no competitor in the bid for Middle East and North Africa World Cup TV rights for future World cups to come of which is the main basis of the Swiss investigations.

Valcke’s lawyer, Stephane Ceccaldi, reinterated that his client had done nothing wrong, adding that “There was a contract and Mr Valcke paid the rent.”

Meanwhile, World football governing body, FIFA, announced that it has opened investigations on Al Khelaifi as regards the World Cup TV rights.

Controversy has surrounded the Qatar World Cup as a result of the accusations and investigations against Nasser Al Khelaifi with suggestions of stripping Qatar off the 2022 World Cup arising.

However, organisers have hit back at suggestions that the oil rich nation be stripped off the hosting rights of the 2022 World Cup.
