A society for all as Fayose employs 51 People With Disabilities

To create a Democratic society that would be open for all without prejudice, the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has given jobs to 51 people with disabilities (PWDs) including a University Graduate.

The Governor further directed that 100 PWDs should be enlisted in the State Social Security Scheme.

He made the declaration at a meeting with the Ekiti State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Physically Handicapped at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on Tuesday as part of activities marking his administration’s third year anniversary.

“I feel your pains, I share your pains and I assure you of continuous support”, the Governor said.

One of beneficiaries, Gboyega Afolabi, who was offered an automatic employment at the Ekiti State University, EKSU, expressed his gratitude and described the Governor as Godsend to the State.

“He is a peculiar person and kind-hearted. He loves the people and is very approachable. I never imagined that this great opportunity could come my way just like that. Governor Fayose is the leader we need in this country.

“I appeal to the people of the State to vote in somebody from the Fayose political family for these great works to continue. He is truly a leader and lover of the people,” he said.

The Governor also donated 1 Million Naira for the medical expenses of the PWDs and directed that eye specialists should examine some of the people and eyeglasses provided for those who need them. He added that 20 wheelchairs would be bought for them.

Some of you have high blood pressure, diabetes and so on, I will release a million naira as medical bills so as to make life more comfortable for you, the CMD of EKSUTH should come and attend to you here tomorrow by 10am”,he said.

This would not be the first time ‘The Rock’ is showing the kind gesture and concern to the PWDs. In 2016, the Governor marked his 56th birthday with the PWD’s in State.

He disclosed then that 10 disabled people have already been employed by his administration and more would be employed.

In his words, “we have more than 500 members with NCE certificate and over 1,000 below NCE yearning for gainful employment in the State.”

In August this year, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State empowered over 2,000 PWDs with financial grants and assistive technologies and mobility aids.

Items distributed to the selected beneficiaries include: 1 Hyundai 30-Seater bus for Pacelli School for the visually impaired/Blind, Surulere, Lagos; 1 Hyundai 12-Seater mini bus for Joint National Association of Persons Living With Disabilities (Lagos State Chapter) and 1 Index Express Embosser with Duxbury Braille for Nigerian Society for the Blind, among several others.

The Governor also plans to employ 250 others in the mainstream of the State and Local Government service.
