Unlike Kaduna, this is why Kano is not sacking its 25,000 unqualified staffs

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State will not be following his Kaduna counterpart by sacking unqualified teachers in the State Public Primary Schools.

The Governor, who spoke at the distribution of empowerment facilities to 550 youths and car loans to 2,600 Civil Servants at the Government House, confirmed that his administration inherited no fewer than 25,000 unqualified teachers in the State Primary Schools

Ganduje explained that instead of sacking the affected teachers, the Government is mindful of the multiplier effect of unemployment market.

He added that the teachers have since been enrolled in tertiary institution to acquire National Teachers Certificate (NCE).

Recently, Kaduna State Government announced 21,780 teachers were given a primary four examination test and 66 per cent of them did not meet the 75 per cent requirement.

The Governor noted that those who did not meet the requirement would be laid off and a new set would be recruited.

In order to encourage education in the State, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and the Kano State Government collaborate to professionalised 8,000 unqualified teachers in the State.

The Governor emphasised that his administration is committed to effective and efficient policies for functional development of Civil Service in Kano, adding that the loan was a strategic move to motivate workers to do more.

The State Government recently removed the dichotomy between HND and B.Sc graduates, as well as the tenure system of directors in the State Civil Service to inject efficiency and equal opportunity for all.

Ganduje cautioned the youths not to divert the empowerment equipment given to them after their training, revealing that the Government would set up a team to monitor their progress.

The Collaborative empowerment between Kano State Government and Industrial Training Fund, (ITF) gave 550 youths a three-month intensive vocational training in tailoring, plumbing, photography and Plasters of Paris (POP).

The Director General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Mr. Joseph Ari, who applauded Kano State Government empowerment Initiative, wants the beneficiaries to be employer of labour.

He added that the Vocational Programme was in line with the Federal Government’s sustainable economic growth initiative to encourage self-sufficiency.

While celebrating the Workers Day in May, the Governor said he has sponsored two-thousand Primary School Teachers to obtain the minimum teaching qualification which is the NCE.
