FedAdo crisis continues the students vandalism culture

The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti has been shut indefinitely on Sunday, following the violent protest by students over the death of two of them. The Registrar of the School, Mrs Sade Adediran, announced that the closure will be with immediate effect and warned students to stay away from the school as perpetrators will be punished. She however did not state if any student died at the health centre that gave way for the violent protest.

The trouble was reported to have started on Friday when two students complaining of Malaria were rushed to the health centre. Their condition deteriorated and they died in the early hours of Saturday.

Upon hearing the death of their colleagues, the students quickly mobilised themselves, marched to the Centre and set it ablaze, burning down the building.

They were also reported to have destroyed other school properties and blocked the roads leading to the institution which prevent vehicular movement.

It has become a culture for students to express their themselves by destroying and vandalising school properties. In February, the Students of the Federal University of Technology, Minna in Niger State, went haywire, setting ablaze the school clinic. They also vandalise the female hostel, libraries, lecture rooms and a Microfinance Bank due to the death of a Student at the school clinic.

It was learnt that the Student, named Emmanuel, 300-level Science Education slumped at the Football field in preparation for a match. When rushed to the clinic, the doctors were said to be unavailable and no Ambulance was provided for 30 minutes after which he gave up the ghost.

Also in July, Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State was closed following a violent protest by the students.

The students were reported to have protested the death of one of their own who was refused medical attention at the Clinic because he failed to produce his school Identity card.

He eventually passed away while waiting for medical attention and this aggravated the student who stormed the school premises and destroyed infrastructures including the clinic.

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo students went on rampage last month and destroyed school properties. It was gathered that the students were protesting over the death of two of their own that died due to poor medical facility on the campus.
