Kidnappers demand N200m for the release of Osayomore, N350m for Andy Ehimare

Ransom for the release of Edo State-born musician, Osayomore Joseph, has been disclosed and the family of the victim has decried the outrageous amount of money being demanded of them.

The kidnappers who abducted the musical ace last week Tuesday at about 10pm at Orovie village, off Upper Ekenwan Road in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State, after having reportedly performed at the palace of the Oba of Benin, are demanding for a N200 million ransom for the release of the musician.

The source of the information, a close member of the musician’s family, disclosed under anonymity that the family has been contacted with regards to negotiations for his release but lamented that the amount of money being demanded is outrageous.

“It is not affordable because there is no way the family can find that kind of money. Osayomore is just managing his life right now and does not have such money.”

The source also pleaded with the abductors to free the musician unhurt, stating that the family is not as rich as they are being perceived.

“They are only managing just like any other Nigerian. We are begging them to see reasons and release him because his health is not in the best state.”

In the same vein, the abductors of Managing Director of Ogba Zoo and Nature Park, Dr. Andy Ehanire, are demanding for a ransom of N350 million. Ehanire was kidnapped on the 24th of September after the three policemen who were on duty at the zoo premises were killed by the kidnappers.

Spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Nkombe, told reporters that the police was doing everything within its power to ensure that both the Managing Director of the Zoo, Dr. Andy Ehanire, and the musician, Osayomore Joseph, were released unhurt and allowed to rejoin their families.

Meanwhile, there is pressure on the Edo State government as a result of these occurrences, as residents in the state are calling on the government to do something concerning the sudden resurgence of criminal elements, especially kidnappers, in the state.

There are speculations and allegations that this is coming as a response to the ban on the Community Development Associations (CDAs) by the Obaseki led administration. It is believed that angry members of the CDAs are collaborating with those opposed to the government in power to fight the system. Some analysts say it is palpable when the killings and abductions in the city of Benin are being perpetuated just few weeks to the Governor’s first year in office anniversary which comes up in November.
