In keeping to UN sanctions on North Korea over its continuous advancement in nuclear programs, Malaysia has placed a travel ban on its citizens to the Country. The ban, which was announced by the Malaysian Foreign Ministry on Thursday, would last till further notice.
The Asian Cup qualifier football match between Malaysia and North Korea, which have been delayed twice over security issues but was scheduled for October 5 in Pyongyang, will be affected by the travel ban.
Both countries had earlier imposed travel ban on the other’s citizens as a result of the death of North Korea Leader’s half-brother at the Kuala Lumpur Airport in February this year, but were lifted after an agreement was reached in March.
Football Association of Malaysia when questioned as to whether the team would be allowed to fly to Pyongyang despite the ban said it would issue an official statement later.
In recent weeks, Kuwait and Mexico have expelled North Korea’s envoys, while the US has placed a travel ban on the Country’s citizens.
North Korea’s major ally and business partner, China, has on Thursday given North Korea companies 120 days to leave Beijing.
