Top-flight Montenegrin Goalkeeper, Goran Lenac, has been shot dead while training with a friend at the FC Bokelj training ground.
The incident reportedly occurred on last week Saturday evening at about 7:30pm Local time. Lenac was training at the Bokelj training ground when he was shot.
The 33 year old goalkeeper was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with gunshot wound in the head. He was confirmed dead at a medical facility in Risan.
He was a well-known figure in the Community as former teammates and all those who knew him revealed that he was a committed sportsman who often helps in funding young aspiring athletes from his personal pocket.
The City of Kotor was blocked off by the Police as they searched for the shooter.
Meanwhile, skalaradio.com, a Local media in Montenegro have reported that the shooter must have known the area as he was able to escape immediately in the dark without being caught.
Gunshots were also reportedly fired in the air as the assailant fled the scene apparently to scare potential eye-witness off the scene.
Montenegro has witness quite a number of criminal violence between gangs since 2016, prompting the Government to send anti-terrorism Police and also putting the City of Kotor on lock-down.
Six incidents including gunfights and a murder were recorded in three months. The recent incident recorded was a gunfight between rival drug gang operating in Kotor.
Montenegro’s organised crime circles grew rich and powerful during the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s. Gangs involved in cocaine smuggling and money laundering are particularly active in Kotor.
