Despite recording victories in their last two games, the D’Tigers of Nigeria lost to the Congolese who made their first appearance in the FIBA Afro Basketball in a decade by 83-77 points in the last group stage matches.
Despite the win over Nigeria, the Congolese finish as runners up in Group A behind the D’Tigers of Nigeria who emerged on top of the group on goal average rule.
In other Group A matches, Mali demolished Cote d’Ivoire by a resounding 92-63 points. Even with the win, both teams failed to qualify for the last Eight of the ongoing Afro Basketball.
Group B saw Angola winning by 64-44 points against Central African Republic in a tight and suspense parked encounter. Morocco remained unbeaten in the group stage as the took on Uganda 79-70 points dashing Uganda’s hope of winning a single match in the tournament.
Co-hosts Tunisia advanced to the Quarter finals defeating Guinea 64-59 points to keep their unbeaten run. In other Group C match, Cameroon had to push themselves to overcome Rwanda 88-77 points.
In the last Group D, Senegal ran riot over Mozambique as they won with a resounding 80-49 points while Egypt out played South Africa with a 70-51 point win to qualify for the Quarter finals.
In the Quarter finals to commence September 14, Tunisia faces DR Congo, Senegal take on Angola, Morocco entertains Egypt while Nigeria plays neighbours Cameroon.
