Anambra Election: 2face inaugurates “Vote not Fight, Election no Be War” Campaign

Multi-award winning Nigerian artiste, Innocent Ujah Idibia popularly known as 2face Idibia, last week inaugurated  the “Vote not Fight, Election No Be War” Campaign, to enlighten youths on embracing peace in the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election on November 18.

The Campaign, which was endorsed by the Governor of Anambra State Willie Obiano, is a collaboration of 2face Idibia Foundation, Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement [YIAGA] and Youngstars Development Initiative[YDI].

Also in collaboration is Centre for Ethics and Youth Development [CEYD], Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre [GPSDC] and Integrity Youth Development Initiative [IYDI].

In his statement at the ceremony in Awka, he emphasized  the need to prevent  unnecessary loss of lives and properties, before, during and after the Election.

“Since 2015, I and the partner organization on the Vote  Not  Fight campaign have worked tirelessly  to increase youth participation in our country’s election.

“I call on youth of Anambra to ensure that they go out and vote for the candidates of their choice.

“The legitimacy of government is development in peaceful, free, fair and credible elections”.

He also added that, even if Biafra is granted today, you still need peace for elections to hold. We have to go out ,show maturity and vote responsibly.

“We have to monitor and engage our leaders. I encourage our youths to join political parties of their choice and grow to help make informed decisions”.

The singer advised political candidates on the need to utilize established legal avenues for any concerns on the election.

He also urged traditional and religious rulers, elder statesmen, as well as youth and women groups to join the campaign against the act of violence, and implored them to play according to the doctrine of democracy.

Earlier, Mr. Kingsley Bangwell of Youngstars Organisation, revealed that some youth group based in Anambra had been enlightened on the non-violent election advocacy and voter education skills to ensure effective campaigns.

Bangwell added that, the youth received training on advocacy skills to enable them organize their communities for the participation of a peaceful Governorship Election.

The State Chairman of Peoples Progressive Alliance [PPA] , Mr. Mathias Ameke, recently commended 2face for taking the bold step to promote peaceful elections, and urged on politicians on the need to obey the rule of law.

“Young people are the key to nationhood and until they are led on the right path, they may continue to deviate.

“They must be taught that elections are not do-or-die and taught to develop spirit of sportsmanship”.

Governorship aspirants under the umbrella of People Democratic Party [PDP] and All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, in the persons of Mr. Oseloka Obaze, and Governor  Willie Obiano amongst others, endorsed the Campaign.
