Messi fires in first career goal against Buffon, breaks jinx

Few things remain that Lionel Messi has not done in the world of football as he scored against world best Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon for the first time in his career.

Lionel Messi fired home the opener in his club’s clash against Juventus with Ivan Rakitic adding to make it two before another brilliant goal from Messi to wrap it up.

Messi fired from inside the box with a low and perfectly placed accuracy that left Buffon with no option. The goal was Messi’s first touch of the ball in the match.

The Argentine has played thrice against Buffon in club matches with this match being the fourth time. Messi has also met Buffon once in National match when Argentina played Italy in a friendly match in 2013. In all previous matches Buffon had not conceded any goal to Messi. The first time they met in club football was in 2015 Champions League final which Barcelona won convincingly.

Messi has been known to have goal drought against top goalkeepers in the world with the likes of Neuer where he played four times before scoring twice in the semi-finals against Bayern in 2015.

The win saw Barcelona top Group D of the Champions League with Juventus currently at the bottom of the group, while Olympiacos lost 2-3 to visiting Sporting Lisbon.

In other Champions League matches, Chelsea demolished Qarabag FK 6-0, Roma played a goalless draw with Atletico Madrid in Group C.

Group B saw Bayern defeat Anderlect 3-0, big spenders PSG humiliated Celtic 5-0 in front of home crowd, with newly signed Neymar and Mbappe putting their names on the score sheet alongside Cavani.

In Group A, Benfica lost one goal to two to visiting CSKA Moscow, while Manchester United thrashed F.C Basel 3-0 to mark their return to Champions League.

Champions league returnee Liverpool took on Sevilla, Maribor against Spartak Moskva, while Porto trade tackles with Besiktas.

In other matches, RB Leipzig welcomes Monaco, while Ronaldo returns as Real Madrid take on Apoel Nicosia. EPL runners up Tottenham entertain Dortmund, Shakhtar Donestsk play Napoli and lastly Feyenoord play host to Manchester City.
