Nigeria slumps in FIFA ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria has slump six places to the 44th position in the latest FIFA ranking.

The Eagles expected an increase in ranking following impressive performances recorded recently. The Gernot Rohr led team had a decent performance against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, beating them 4-0 in Uyo and playing out a one all draw in Yaoundé in the World Cup qualifier match.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon also slump ten places from 35th to 45th position.

Meanwhile, Cape Verde enjoined the biggest move as the ranking moved them by 264 points to earn a place in the 47th position. Nigeria’s next opponents for the Russia world Cup qualifier, Zambia got a boost as they zoomed to 78th position in the world moving 18 places upward.

The down slide recorded by the Eagles could be as a result of the loss recorded against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Uyo.

The FIFA ranking in Africa has Egypt in the first position and 30th in the world, dropping five spots. Tunisia is second with 810 points from 776 points to see them place 31st in the world.

Senegal are 33rd in the world and third in Africa with 774 points from previous 794, dropping two spots. Congo DR, 42nd and 4th in Africa having 709 points from 822 while dropping 14 spots.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria occupy the 44th position in the world and 5th in Africa, having 696 points from 716, and dropping six spots. Cameroon, having lost to Nigeria, are 45th in the world and 6th in Africa with 489 points from 737, dropping by 10 spots in the ranking.

Others are Burkina Faso, 49th and 7th in Africa having 663 points from 678 to drop two spots. Nigeria rivals, Ghana, are 52nd in the world and 8th in Africa having dropped two spots with 646 points from 665, Cote d’Ivoire are 54th in the world and 9th in Africa with 637 points still.

Morocco are 10th in Africa and 56th in the world from 600 points to 635 moving four spots upward.

The highest upward movers, Cape Verde, zoomed to 67th in the world and 13th in Africa having 548 points against previous 284 points, elevating by 47 incredible paces.

Making the world top ten are Germany overthrowing Brazil with 1606 points from 1549 moving one spot to gain the first position. Brazil is second with 1590 points from 1604, dropping one spot down.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s inspired Portugal are third with 1386 from 1267, moving three spots. Argentina, captained by Messi, occupy fourth position with 1325 from 1399, dropping by one spot.

Belgium moved the highest to gain the fifth position, having 1265 from 1194 points to move four spots upwards. Poland sixth with 1250 from 1379 points losing one spot, Switzerland fell three spots to seventh on the ranking, having 1210 from 1329 points.

Euro 2016 runners up, France, are eighth on the log with 1208 points from 1157 moving two spots up.  Chile are ninth having 1195 points from 1250 points, declining by two spots and completing the top ten is Columbia in the tenth position with 1191 points from 1208 points and dropping two spots down.

The next FIFA World Ranking comes up on October 16.
