Over 500 teachers have been trained in English Language by the Kaduna State government, as part of an on-going effort towards strengthening proficiency for the teaching of the subject in the State.
“Just last two weeks, the government has concluded training for 60 technical teachers on practical skills and yesterday 500 English teachers concluded a week long training on English proficiency”
The Deputy Director of schools in the Ministry Of Education, Science and Technology, Idris Aliyu stated that the training was part of Kaduna State government’s effort to improve the quality of teaching in the State, pointing out that “teachers cannot give out what they do not have”
He noted that the cardinal principle of this administration was on education, adding that this can be seen in the on-going massive infrastructural development and teachers’ capacity building in the education sector.
Similarly, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nasiru Umar mentioned that the state government would always ensure quality teaching in schools.
He said that training and retraining of teachers were ways to equip them with modern techniques for effective teaching
“I assure you that we will continue to train until all subjects are covered and every teacher is rebranded with new skills”
Meanwhile, a facilitator with the Teacher Development Programme said that strengthening English Language Teachers’ proficiency would improve their communication skills with the students.
Some beneficiaries of the programme who were excited thanked the State government for the opportunity given to them, stressing that the training was awesome.
“I have learnt, how to better express myself, how to communicate with my student in class and how to better pass the message across”
