FG declares Friday, September 1 and Monday September 4, 2017 public holidays as Osun State provides free transportation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, September 1 and Monday, September 4, 2017 as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), made the announcement today in Abuja via the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Rufa’i Attahiru.

Dambazau congratulated Muslims and advised all Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, prosperity and the stability of democracy.

He urged Nigerians to join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in building the Nation.

“In its avowed determination to build a peaceful and harmonious country, where the rights of every citizen are protected and guaranteed”

Dambazau assured Nigerians of their safety in all parts of the country, stressing that security agencies have been directed to maintain peace and protect lives and properties.

“He condemned in strong terms the prevalence of hate speeches in the country and warned that the government would henceforth deal with perpetrators according to the law, while emphasising that the government would continue to foster peaceful coexistence, national cohesion and stability in its march towards actualizing the full potential of Nigeria”

In a related development, Osun State government has concluded plans to provide free train ride for its indigenes from Lagos to Osogbo during the Eid-el- Kabir break.

Jaiyeoba-Alagbada, Commissioner for Industries, Commerce and Co-operatives, made this today in Osogbo saying that the gesture was in furtherance of Governor Rauf Aregbesola Administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people.

He explained that the first free train would move from Lagos on Wednesday August 30, 2017 at 10.a.m. from the Iddo Terminus to Osogbo, the second train would leave Iddo Terminus, Lagos on Thursday, August 31, 2017 to Osogbo by 10a.m as well. He further stated that after the holiday, the train would leave Osogbo on a single trip to Lagos on Sunday September 3, 2017 by 10. a.m
