Emeka Ojukwu Jnr., son of Late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu yesterday confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari was right in his Presidential Broadcast when he mentioned that he discussed the unity and indivisibility of the Nation with his late father.
He denied reports, which stated that he accused the President, of being wrong in his statement, on the Presidential Broadcast, where he discussed with his father, on the unity of Nigeria.
“It has been brought to my attention that there is an article making the rounds on social media attributed to me, refuting the remarks of Mr President concerning his relationship and discussions with my late father, let me state categorically that I made no such comments to anybody, and secondly, I am aware that Buhari’s comments were indeed factual”.
This is coming after the Biafra Zionists’ Federation (BZF) led by Mr Benjamin Onwuka, described President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim that he discussed at length with Ojukwu on a united Nigeria as not true and challenged the President to produce evidence of his claim.
Reacting to the presidential directive to Security Chiefs, to clamp down on the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), boko haram, amongst other groups, IPOB’s leader Nnamdi Kanu said
“The alleged directive for a clamp down on IPOB is the continuation of the Buhari regime’s dictatorial and wholesomely undemocratic approach to governance. I find it unacceptable, abhorrent and insulting that somebody elected by the people can turn around to dictate to them how he wants them to behave”.
It would be recalled that the President held a meeting with his National Security Council where he directed them on some areas to work on in order to enhance operations in the country.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who was the Governor of Nigeria’s Eastern Region before the Civil War, contested for Senate under NPN. He was arrested by the Buhari military regime and later cleared and released. While releasing him then the Military leader Buhari said
“While we will not hesitate to send those found with cases to answer before the special military tribunal, no person will be kept in detention a-day longer than necessary if investigations have not so far incriminated him.”
Before his death, Ojukwu contested for 2 of the 4 Presidential elections under APGA, a party he remained its leader till his death. APGA was in control of just 2 South Eastern States. In 2003, Ojukwu came third with a total of 1.2 million votes. In 2007 he came 6th with a total of 155,000 votes.
