Sen. Mohammed Hassan representing Yobe State has called on the Federal Government to find a permanent resolution to the continual strikes in the country’s tertiary institutions.
He stated that the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities was not healthy for the Nation. He also noted that the recurrent strikes sets students back by several steps, thereby affecting their capacity after graduation.
“The Federal Government should find a way of nipping this in the bud by identifying the issues and resolving them.
“The capacity of our citizens keeps going down, and it is not good for us, because of our human development index, which education is part of, and it is not encouraging”.
Hassan called for quick resolution of the ongoing strike to prevent the negative effect of exposing young people to criminality as a result of being idle.
Meanwhile, speaking exclusively with ETN24, the National President of NANS, Comrade Haruna Kadiri, gave assurance that the strike will be called off this week. He explained that lecturers are like the parents of students and if they are not taken care of the education of students is threatened.
