This is how Kogi plans to create a fair Agricultural Village

Kogi State Government, in continuing its Agricultural Development Project, has organized an Agricultural Summit which is aimed at creating jobs for the youths and opening fair Agricultural Villages in the State.

The Summit with theme ‘Agriculture: Investment Opportunities’ is scheduled to hold November 20 and 21, 2017.

The Managing Director, Agricultural Development Project, Mr Oyisi Okatahi, said the Summit is an opportunity to bring investors, sponsors, farmers, academics and the general public to deliberate and create opportunities within the State.

He noted that at the end of the Summit, investors will be issued conditional Certificate of Ownership based on performance milestone in order to develop Fair Agric Villages in the State.

“Fair Agric Villages are villages that shall supply the entire value chain for agriculture including supply of inputs crop production, livestock, fisheries, infrastructure, technology, processing, marketing, credit system and for export”.

Mr. Okatahi stated that the aim of the summit is to create jobs for the youths, income generation as well as opening up cluster farming centres across the State.

“Kogi State occupies a strategic position to lead agricultural development in Nigeria given its natural endowment of resources and confluence of the two major rivers with fertile alluvial soil deposits”.

“Despite the challenges being faced in agriculture, significant growth potential still exists but will require external intervention from both government and private sector participants”.

Kogi State Government had previously declared a state of emergency in the agricultural sector and placed agriculture on the front burners of its economic prosperity plan.

Agricultural villages can be found in countries like the United States, Egypt, China, and Japan among others.
